For our outdoor adventure this week we picked up some of the kids’ friends and went skating on the river walk. Can you picture it? Me on roller blades? Pushing two babies in a stroller? Going up and down hills? I had to hold onto the stroller just to stay upright and those hills were scary. Sweetness was buckled securely inside but Lovely was perched on the front holding on for dear life. See how I like to risk my children’s lives? I’m a very reckless mother. I think next time we will be smart enough to have her wear a helmet. Now I’m trying to figure out why we weren’t all wearing helmets. The kids always wear helmets when they skate or bike but that doesn’t excuse us so go ahead and let me have it.
I’ve never wanted to learn to roller blade but a couple years ago Sailor said he was going to divorce me if I didn’t buy a pair so I could join them at the skating rink. I think he was just jealous that I got to sit in my comfortable folding chair and read while he chased the kids around. I finally bought a pair for the sake of family peace and every time we go skating I take a few turns with the stroller. I’ve never learned to actually skate by myself. Or go up and down hills. Or stop.
But it was fun and the terror of falling and breaking an arm or worse made it that much more exciting. Especially on the steep, blind corners.
For some reason Sailor wouldn’t let me take any pictures while I was wearing my skates. He wouldn’t even let me touch my camera.
After we skated and played frisbee and smelled flowers we went to the trout farm to feed the fish.
Well, some of us fed the fish and some of us just ate the fish food ourselves.
If I could find it I would post a picture from when Persistence was this age and we went to the trout farm. She caught one of the fish that was swimming around in a bucket and tried to suck the scales off it right then and there. Even after it was filleted she had to suck on the bag of slimy fish all the way home and screamed if we tried to take it away from her. See? She has always liked gross things. I wonder how long she will keep her rotting tonsils on display on her nightstand.

I”ve only been reading your blog a couple of weeks. I’m not sure where in the US you live (maybe Utah?), but it certainly is beautiful. Your family is beautiful, and your pics are great!
Your photos are great! Those girls are just the cutest. When do we get your parenting advice though?
What camera did you end up getting? Last I remember you took the one you bought back to Costco. I’m sure you posted about it, but I wasn’t drinking green smoothies then, so I’m sure I forgot.
Lara says: So are the green smoothies helping your memory? Maybe mine was too far gone for help! I bought another Nikkon D90 with a different lens package. I love the camera but any SLR is better than my point and shoot.
Well, maybe the fish food will fatten her up a little. Those pics turned out great.
beautiful! may i ask what kind of stroller that is? we are looking for a jogging stroller and i like how yours is a “double” haha
Lara says: It’s a Bob stroller. I blogged about it here when we bought it 2 1/2 years ago and I have loved every penny of it. Seriously expensive but worth it. The foot rest makes a nice seat for an older child if you’re not a professional runner which I am not. If my girls were closer in age I might have sprung for the double after Sweetness was born but they are over three years apart so Lovely is old enough to walk when we’re shopping and she wants to start riding her bike when we run/roller blade.
That is one seriously cute baby. Almost cuter than mine.
And those are great photos of her. Good job with your camera.
I’m with Persistence. I was mad that the doctor wouldn’t save my gallbladder for me when I had it out a few years ago. He took one measly fuzzy polaroid of it to give me. (and this is probably TMI, but I always insist that my doc let me see my placenta after delivery. It’s so fascinating to me!)
Who is the professional photographer that takes your pictures for you?
